TEDxPearlRiver 2010 event's programme
On a stage designed to celebrate Hong Kong's innovation and creativity, Hong Kong-based speakers included celebrated conductor Perry So, renowned philanthropist and founder of DHL International Po Yang-Chung, designer and environmental activist Joanne Ooi and scientists William Mak and Roy Horan. Cybertect James Law, venture capitalist Po Chi Wu, Animal Welfarist Jill Robinson, entomologist Christophe Barthelemy and conservationist Willie Smits will join them on stage.
International speakers at the event also included extreme adventurer Annabelle Bond, renowned explorer and environmental educator Mike Horn, conversational expert Susan Bird, photographer Monique Stauder and writer and environmental educator John Hardy.
Highlights at TEDxPearlRiver included a presentation by the scientist William Mak's innovative biotech mobile lab bus, a novel and ingenious method for teaching science to kids. Exhibitions by local artists were also a feature.
The diverse programme offered the first experience of its kind in Hong Kong, aiming to inspire, influence and engage, sparking thought and discussion amongst the audience, both at the venue and online around the world. Took place at the ArtisTree in TaiKoo Place, an impressive 20,000 sq ft venue dedicated to promoting arts and culture, which has been generously provided by Swire Properties.
The theme of the event will be "Explore".

Born in Montreal and raised in Edmonton, Pakistan and Singapore, Christine pursued her university degrees in Ottawa, Ontario. Christine is the Vice Consul at the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong. She also previously worked with the Government of Canada’s Consular Bureau, assisting Canadian citizens during such events as Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami, and the 2006 evacuation from Lebanon. Her experience on stage includes theatrical performances and acting as Master of Ceremonies for numerous events. Christine brings to the TEDx speaking series a wide range of perspectives and is passionate about exploring the social powers that come to play in the development and implementation of new ideas.

A Canadian-born part Chinese environmentalist with a passion for learning, living, and sharing sustainability. Following a successful modeling and acting career, this passion led her to join EcoVision Asia, a ten-year established environmental education and events organization. Nissa has played a major role in expanding the reach and exposure of the Hong Kong International Coastal Cleanup Challenge over the past several years. She is the Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the soon-to-launch environmental media platform, EarthMatters, designed to serve as a consumer’s guide to sustainable business and lifestyle. |

Born in New York, and raised in London and Hong Kong. Currently a first-year student at MIT, hoping to major in Physics. Loves literature, travel and food. Enjoys rock-climbing, scuba diving, kitesurfing and yoga. A great fan of TED talks, but frustrated by the difficulty of attending a TED conference, she got together with friends to organize a TEDx event in Hong Kong.

Manisha Tank is a news anchor, now residing in Hong Kong having spent parts of her career in both London and New York. She's become a familiar face in the Hong Kong bureau of CNN International, covering both World Report and World Business Today. For ten years Manisha focused on the business news agenda, winning the Summerson Goodacre Daily Telegraph award for best Industry Commentator in 2007. During that time Manisha worked for the BBC, presenting for BBC World News, BBC Breakfast and also hosting the network's first foray into Interactive news discussion shows for Internet and On Demand Services. Manisha is a trustee on the board of WorldWideVolunteering, a UK based charity promoting voluntary work, for all, globally.
